Job Full Description:
A growing furniture manufacturing company in West Michigan is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Commodity Buyer to join its supply chain team. This position is responsible for quoting, ordering, and managing pricing for international commodities and/or a defined group of suppliers. The ideal candidate will bring strong MRP system knowledge, supplier management skills, and a proactive approach to cost savings and vendor coordination. Responsibilities:
- Manage international purchase orders from requisition through delivery for assigned commodities
- Own pricing strategies and inventory levels for a defined commodity group
- Maintain accurate SKU data in MRP systems, including product costs, lot sizes, lead times, safety stock, and vendor info
- Evaluate and implement cost-saving methods across the supply base
- Track vendor performance and ensure timely delivery of materials
- Proactively communicate and escalate procurement or delivery issues with solutions or alternatives
- Serve as the commodity “expert” by developing deep knowledge of supplier capabilities and processes
- Expedite materials as needed to support production timelines
- Investigate and resolve invoice discrepancies related to pricing or quantities
Schedule: 1st shift, Monday–Friday
Job Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in supply chain, purchasing, or procurement
- At least 2 years of experience as a buyer preferred
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and multi-tasking skills
- Strong team player with the ability to work across departments
- Functional understanding of BOMs, MRP systems, and process improvement
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant tools
- Strong time management and organization skills
- Solid knowledge of purchasing concepts, supplier management, and manufacturing support
Job Education
Associate’s degree in Business or related field, or equivalent work experience required
