Job Full Description:
A leading West Michigan manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to provide strategic leadership for its North American purchasing operations. This role is responsible for developing sourcing strategies, leading a high-performing purchasing team, managing supplier relationships, and driving continuous improvements in cost, quality, and delivery performance. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with strong negotiation skills, a strategic mindset, and experience managing purchasing operations in a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute purchasing strategies that support organizational goals and long-term business growth.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the purchasing team, establishing objectives, managing performance, and fostering professional growth.
- Build, maintain, and strengthen strategic supplier partnerships while negotiating favorable contracts and driving supplier performance.
- Manage purchasing operations to ensure quality, on-time delivery, and cost-effective procurement while supporting production and new product development.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, quality, and other departments to support value analysis/value engineering (VA/VE), supplier improvement initiatives, and project success.
- Develop departmental budgets, business plans, policies, and procedures while monitoring purchasing performance, costs, and key metrics.
- Research and implement new purchasing processes, technologies, and best practices to improve efficiency and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform additional duties and strategic initiatives as needed to support business objectives.

Job Experience
- Eight or more years of progressive purchasing and management experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Automotive industry experience preferred.
- Demonstrated success leading purchasing teams, managing budgets, and developing strategic sourcing initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of materials management, supplier development, contract negotiation, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities while collaborating effectively with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
Job Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Materials Management, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
