Job Full Description:

A West Michigan nonprofit serving immigrants and new Americans is seeking a compassionate, emotionally grounded, and collaborative Program Specialist to oversee its Community Navigator team and ensure high-quality delivery of support services.
This role plays a vital part in helping individuals and families successfully transition to life in West Michigan by supporting program implementation, strengthening relationships with community partners, and working closely with the Executive Director and development team. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership skills, cultural humility, and a genuine heart for serving immigrant communities. Candidates with lived immigrant experience—or significant experience working with immigrant and refugee populations—are strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

Program Leadership & Oversight

  • Supervise, support, and develop the Community Navigator team
  • Lead day-to-day program operations, ensuring quality service delivery and mission alignment
  • Ensure program activities follow organizational standards, grant requirements, and best practices
  • Track program outcomes, maintain accurate records, and support reporting requirements

Staff Support & Development

  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and emotional support to Community Navigators
  • Foster a work environment rooted in humility, kindness, professionalism, and strong emotional intelligence
  • Assist with onboarding, training, and ongoing development for direct-service staff

Community Collaboration & Advocacy

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, service providers, and resource networks
  • Serve as a point of contact for escalated client needs and complex cases
  • Represent the organization professionally in community meetings and events

Organizational Support

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to implement and improve programs
  • Support the development team with data collection, storytelling, site visits, and events
  • Assist with fundraising events, outreach, and public engagement
  • Participate in occasional evening and weekend events as required

Schedule: 30 hours per week, 8am-5pm, must be available to work some evenings and weekends for events 

Job Experience

  • Experience supervising or supporting a human services or community-based team
  • Lived experience as an immigrant or professional experience working with immigrant, refugee, or multicultural communities strongly preferred
  • High emotional intelligence, calm under pressure, and able to support staff through challenging situations
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Ability to build trust with diverse individuals and families
  • Organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
  • Passion for advancing equity, belonging, and culturally responsive services
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends
