Pay: $55,000–$75,000, based on experience

Job Full Description:

A local accounting firm is seeking a Payroll Specialist to support a diverse client base of privately and family-owned businesses. This role is responsible for managing payroll processing, payroll tax reporting, bookkeeping, and accounting functions while providing exceptional client service. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and enjoys working with a variety of clients in a professional services environment with opportunities for continued growth and development.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and process weekly payroll for business clients
  • Create payroll summary schedules and supporting documentation
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll tax filings
  • Review payroll and related reporting prepared by other team members for accuracy
  • Research payroll tax regulations and implement necessary updates to ensure compliance
  • Perform bookkeeping functions, including bank reconciliations and journal entries
  • Prepare financial statements and other accounting reports
  • Assist clients with accounting system setup and optimization, primarily using QuickBooks
  • Utilize third-party accounting applications to improve bookkeeping efficiency
  • Provide QuickBooks training and support to clients and internal staff as needed
  • Stay current on accounting technology and software that enhances client service
  • Communicate professionally with clients to understand their business needs and provide effective accounting solutions
  • Maintain confidentiality while managing sensitive financial information
  • Support additional accounting and payroll projects as assigned

Job Experience

  • 3–5 years of payroll and/or accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of payroll processing and payroll tax reporting requirements
  • Experience with bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience with QuickBooks; experience with ADP and Creative Solutions preferred
  • Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong teamwork, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • High level of integrity and ability to maintain confidential information
  • Experience providing QuickBooks training and developing accounting solutions for clients preferred
