Job Full Description:
A growing medical manufacturing company in Grand Rapids, MI, is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Material Planner to join their supply chain team. This role is responsible for planning and managing purchased materials to support on-time production, maintain optimal inventory levels, and ensure data accuracy within SAP. The Material Planner will collaborate closely with suppliers and internal cross-functional teams to support production needs and drive continuous improvement across supply chain operations.
Responsibilities:
- Plan purchased raw materials and components by category and supplier to support production demand and inventory turn goals
- Create, manage, and execute purchase orders while monitoring supplier fulfillment and on-time delivery performance
- Analyze internal and external conditions to determine when to expedite, defer, or cancel material deliveries
- Collaborate with Accounts Payable to resolve pricing discrepancies, receipt issues, and invoice reconciliation
- Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and annual planning and inventory management activities to ensure data accuracy
- Lead and support phase-in/phase-out activities related to design changes, value engineering, supplier transitions, and product lifecycle management
- Maintain material master and planning data within SAP
- Participate in lean initiatives, Kaizen events, and structured problem-solving activities
- Use data-driven analysis to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
- Perform other duties as assigned
Schedule:
- Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm
Job Experience
- Experience in supply chain planning, demand planning, logistics, purchasing, or inventory management
- Proficiency with ERP systems; SAP B1 experience preferred
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and data analysis
- Knowledge of manufacturing operations, production planning, warehousing, inventory control, and quality systems
- Familiarity with FDA, ISO, cGMP, and GDP requirements preferred
- Strong interpersonal and supplier communication skills with the ability to manage conflicts and negotiate effectively
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Results-oriented and self-motivated with sound problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Job Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred in Business, Science, or a related field
