Job Full Description:
A faith-based organization in West Michigan is seeking a passionate and strategic Development Director to lead its fundraising and development efforts. Their mission is to love their neighbors by providing food and clothing, spread hope by treating all with dignity and compassion, and assist partner ministries in serving their communities.
This role is pivotal in helping the organization grow to the next level and prepare for a capital campaign. The Development Director will design and execute a comprehensive development strategy that drives revenue growth, deepens donor engagement, and strengthens community partnerships. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone with a track record of growing nonprofit funding streams, implementing donor management systems, and building lasting relationships with individuals, churches, and businesses.
Responsibilities:
- Fundraising Strategy & Execution
- Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan that includes major gifts, grants, events, and capital campaign initiatives.
- Establish and track measurable KPIs, including donor calls, appointments, and participation in community events.
- Identify new funding opportunities and partnerships to expand the organization’s donor base and overall reach.
- Donor Engagement & Stewardship
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with donors, businesses, churches, and community partners.
- Create and implement communication strategies to engage, recognize, and retain donors.
- Oversee donor data integrity and manage implementation of a new CRM system for tracking relationships and reporting outcomes.
- Grant Writing & Reporting
- Research, write, and submit grants to private foundations and other funding entities.
- Maintain an organized system for grant reporting and deadlines.
- Marketing & Communications Oversight
- Provide direction for marketing efforts, ensuring consistent branding across print, digital, and event materials.
- Support the design of print and digital collateral for fundraising campaigns and community outreach.
- Community Presence & Representation
- Represent the organization at community events, church gatherings, and networking opportunities with potential to add future fundraising events such as an annual gala or luncheon.
- Serve as an ambassador for the mission, sharing the organization’s story and impact with passion and professionalism.
- Capital Campaign & Growth Initiatives (Future)
- Lead planning and execution of a capital campaign to support organizational expansion.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop campaign materials, case statements, and donor communications.
Schedule: Part-Time (flexible hours based on need), Long-term Contract Role
Job Experience
- 5+ years of experience in nonprofit development, with demonstrated success leading organizations through periods of growth and expansion.
- Proven experience with fundraising strategy development, major donor cultivation, and capital campaign leadership.
- Experience implementing or upgrading donor CRM systems.
- Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and meet goals with minimal supervision.
- Preferred: Grant writing experience, oversight of marketing functions, and familiarity with church and faith-based community engagement.
Job Education
Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field.
