Job Full Description:

A West Michigan nonprofit supporting immigrants and new Americans is seeking a compassionate and resourceful Community Navigator to assist individuals and families as they transition to life in West Michigan. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys helping others, thrives in diverse community settings, and can build trusting relationships with people from various cultural backgrounds. The Community Navigator provides one-on-one support, connects clients to essential resources, and ensures they have the guidance they need to access housing, education, healthcare, employment, and community programs.

Candidates must be fluent in French and either Kikongo or Kinyarwanda, in addition to English.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support to immigrant and newly arrived families in navigating community resources
  • Assist clients with applications, referrals, and accessing social services such as housing, healthcare, transportation, and employment programs
  • Conduct intakes, assess client needs, and develop support plans
  • Build trusting relationships with clients based on respect, empathy, and confidentiality
  • Maintain strong connections with community service providers and partner organizations
  • Represent the organization in community events, outreach activities, and partner meetings
  • Maintain accurate and timely case notes, records, and follow-up documentation
  • Track client progress and outcomes in alignment with grant and program requirements
  • Communicate regularly with the Program Supervisor regarding client needs, trends, and challenges
  • Collaborate with the team to improve services and identify gaps in support
  • Assist with program events, workshops, and educational sessions as needed
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to a positive, supportive work environment

Schedule: Part-time, 30 hours per week. Flexible schedule (some evenings or weekends may occur occasionally for events)

Job Experience

  • Fluent in English and French, plus Kikongo or Kinyarwanda required
  • Experience working with immigrant, refugee, or multicultural communities strongly preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport quickly
  • Empathy, cultural humility, and the ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations
  • Excellent communication and active listening skills
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to maintain organized documentation
  • Reliable transportation for local travel as needed
