Job Full Description:
Mel Trotter Ministries (MTM) is a Christ-centered nonprofit organization serving individuals experiencing homelessness through shelter, recovery, housing, and supportive services.
The Senior Vice President (SVP) provides executive oversight of Next Step, MTM’s social enterprise and workforce development initiative. This role is responsible for the strategic, operational, and financial performance of the organization’s business enterprises and related workforce programming, with emphasis on revenue-generating operations.
Reporting to the President & CEO and serving on the Senior Leadership Team, the SVP leads business enterprise operations and workforce development programs. Next Step’s primary business units — Wood Manufacturing, Construction, and City Services — generate the majority of program revenue and are central to this role.
The SVP is expected to bring strong business experience, with the ability to manage operations, support revenue growth, and align workforce programs with employment outcomes.
Responsibilities:
Business & Operational Leadership
- Provide oversight of all Next Step business enterprise and workforce development operations
- Lead core business units: Wood Manufacturing, Construction, and City Services
- Manage revenue-generating activities to support financial sustainability
- Develop and implement business models that support earned income and employer partnerships
- Identify and maintain strategic business relationships that expand revenue and job opportunities
- Oversee service delivery, sales activity, and overall operational performance
Workforce Development
- Oversee workforce training programs, including:
- Adult Wood Training
- High School Wood Tech
- Adult Pre-Apprentice Carpentry Training
- Momentum, a program focused on soft skills development and spiritual formation
- Ensure training programs align with labor market needs
- Monitor program outcomes such as job placement, retention, and participant progress
- Support alignment between business operations and workforce development goals
Financial & Administrative Oversight
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance
- Ensure appropriate financial controls and stewardship
- Support development of revenue through earned income, grants, and partnerships
- Oversee grant compliance and reporting requirements
Partnerships & Representation
- Maintain relationships with employers, community organizations, and public partners
- Participate in community and workforce system engagement
Leadership

- Supervise and support leadership staff across business and program functions
- Establish performance expectations and support staff development
- Contribute to organizational planning as part of the Senior Leadership Team
Schedule:
Job Experience
- 10+ years of leadership experience in business operations, social enterprise, or nonprofit settings
- Experience managing revenue-generating activities or business units
- Strong financial management skills, including budgeting and forecasting
- Experience leading teams and managing cross-functional operations
- Ability to develop and maintain external partnerships
- Strong communication skills
- Experience in workforce development or training programs (preferred)
- Experience in a mission-driven or nonprofit environment (preferred)

Job Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field
