Our client is seeking a skilled Field Service Technician to join their growing technical support team. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on electronics professional who enjoys solving complex technical issues, working directly with customers, and traveling extensively throughout North America and international locations.
The ideal candidate will have strong electronics troubleshooting experience and a passion for delivering outstanding customer service while installing, maintaining, and supporting sophisticated equipment in the field.
Position Summary
The Field Service Technician will be responsible for installing, commissioning, calibrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting customer equipment at facilities throughout North America and select international locations. This role combines electrical, mechanical, and software troubleshooting with customer training and technical support responsibilities.
This position involves significant travel, typically flying out Monday and returning home Friday, while maintaining weekends at home when schedules permit.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Installation & Service
- Install, commission, calibrate, and maintain customer equipment at client sites.
- Perform preventive maintenance and equipment inspections to maximize system performance and uptime.
- Verify equipment operates according to specifications and customer requirements.
- Assist with equipment startups, acceptance testing, and production readiness activities.
Troubleshooting & Technical Support
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, electronic, mechanical, and software-related issues.
- Provide onsite troubleshooting and repair services.
- Support customers through hotline and remote technical assistance when not traveling.
- Analyze equipment performance and recommend corrective actions.
- Escalate complex issues when necessary while maintaining clear communication with customers and internal teams.
Customer Training & Relationship Management
- Train operators, technicians, and maintenance personnel on equipment operation and best practices.
- Deliver exceptional customer service while representing the company professionally.
- Build positive relationships with customers and serve as a trusted technical resource.
- Provide clear communication regarding service activities, findings, and recommendations.
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete detailed field service reports documenting work performed, findings, and corrective actions.
- Accurately track and submit travel expenses and related documentation.
- Maintain service records and support continuous improvement efforts through detailed reporting.
- Communicate service trends and recurring technical issues to engineering and management teams.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of technician experience in one or more of the following:
- Electronics
- Industrial machinery service
- Automation systems
- Military technical roles
- Equivalent technical field experience
- Strong electronics troubleshooting expertise is required.
- Associate of Science degree in Electronics or 4 years of relevant technician experience.
- Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and experience will be considered.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Automated Test Equipment (ATE).
- PCB testing and diagnostics experience.
- Automation and motion control systems experience.
- PLC troubleshooting exposure.
- Industrial manufacturing or production equipment experience.
- Prior field service experience supporting customer sites.
Travel Requirements
- Travel approximately 2-3 weeks per month.
- Typical schedule consists of:
- Fly out Monday
- Support customer sites during the week
- Return home Friday
- Home on weekends
- Up to 75% travel throughout North America.
- Occasional travel to:
- Costa Rica
- Puerto Rico
- Italy (assignments may occasionally last up to one month)
