Job Full Description:

Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations, strengthen financial controls, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide strategic financial leadership. The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional with strong technical expertise, proven leadership experience, and the ability to manage complex financial operations while supporting organizational objectives.

This role will oversee accounting functions, financial reporting, cash management, internal controls, audits, budgeting, and staff development while ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Direct and manage cash disbursements to vendors, employees, customers, and other stakeholders, ensuring accurate classification and recording of expenditures.
  • Oversee the chart of accounts, including the creation, maintenance, and management of account structures and classifications.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, regulatory filings, tax-related documentation, and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare audit workpapers and supporting documentation for external auditors.
  • Partner with executive leadership to analyze financial information and ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial data.
  • Manage fixed asset accounting, including capitalization and depreciation in accordance with GAAP.
  • Develop, monitor, and oversee departmental and organizational budgets.
  • Support the evaluation, implementation, and enhancement of financial systems, processes, and technology solutions.
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support strategic decision-making and business growth initiatives.

Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Oversee treasury and cash management activities in accordance with organizational policies and financial objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax requirements, and regulatory obligations.
  • Design, implement, and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard assets, improve operational efficiency, and support accurate financial reporting.
  • Monitor compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay informed on accounting, tax, and regulatory developments through ongoing professional education.
  • Support organizational reporting requirements and ensure timely submission of required financial information.

Leadership & Operations

  • Lead and develop accounting and finance staff through coaching, mentoring, performance management, and professional development.
  • Assign and prioritize projects and responsibilities while monitoring workflow and team productivity.
  • Establish departmental goals, priorities, and timelines aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Recruit, onboard, train, and mentor team members.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide regular feedback.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Monitor departmental expenditures and budget performance, implementing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, collaboration, and customer service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by executive leadership.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Achieve departmental objectives through effective leadership, organization, and oversight of accounting and finance operations.
  • Recruit, train, develop, and retain high-performing employees.
  • Coach, counsel, and manage employee performance as needed.
  • Establish and enforce policies, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Maintain a safe, productive, and compliant work environment.
  • Develop schedules, allocate resources, and assign responsibilities to achieve business objectives.
  • Monitor productivity metrics and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Manage departmental budgets and control operating expenses.
  • Ensure quality standards and service expectations are consistently met.
  • Set performance goals and deadlines aligned with organizational strategy.
  • Organize workflow and ensure employees understand responsibilities and expectations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing accounting or finance teams.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • GAAP
    • Financial reporting and analysis
    • Internal controls and risk management
    • Audit preparation and compliance
    • Cash management and treasury functions
    • Budgeting and forecasting
    • Fixed asset accounting
    • Regulatory compliance and reporting requirements
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, accounting software, and advanced Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a complex or highly regulated business environment.
  • Experience leading external audit engagements and regulatory reporting processes.
  • Proven success improving financial processes, controls, system efficiencies, and reporting capabilities.
  • Experience supporting strategic planning, operational growth, and business transformation initiatives.
